Trenchless Pipe Relining Services

Professional Pipe Relining for San Diego Sewer & Drain Lines

Pipe relining — also called CIPP (Cured-In-Place Pipe) lining — is a trenchless technology that creates a brand-new pipe inside your existing damaged one. A resin-saturated liner is inserted through a single access point, inflated against the inner walls of your pipe, and cured in place using heat or UV light. The result is a seamless, jointless new pipe that eliminates cracks, seals leaks, stops root intrusion, and restores full flow — all without a single trench through your property.

Pipe relining is the preferred solution when your sewer or drain line is structurally intact but damaged by age, corrosion, root intrusion, or cracking. It costs significantly less than traditional excavation, preserves your landscaping completely, and is typically completed in a single day. Sky Quality Plumbing provides pipe relining services for residential sewer lines, lateral lines, and drain pipes throughout San Diego County.

Signs Your Pipe May Need Relining

Pipe relining is ideal for pipes that are damaged but not yet collapsed. These signs suggest your sewer or drain line is a strong candidate for relining:

Recurring sewer backups that keep coming back despite cleaning

Slow drains throughout the home even after drain service

Tree root intrusion confirmed by sewer camera inspection

Sewer camera revealing cracks, corrosion, or joint separation

Sewage odors in the yard or around floor drains

Older clay, cast iron, or concrete sewer lines (20+ years old)

If you’re experiencing any of these, a Trenchless Pipe Relining is the most reliable solution. A licensed plumber gets it done right without causing further damage.

Our Pipe Relining Process — Step by Step

Pipe relining is a precise, multi-step process. Here’s exactly what happens from the time we arrive to the time you have a fully restored pipe:

Step 1: Sewer Camera Inspection

Before any relining begins, we insert a high-definition camera through your pipe. This shows us the exact location and extent of damage, confirms the pipe structure is intact enough for relining, and rules out any collapsed or severely offset sections that would need pipe bursting instead. You see exactly what we see on screen.

Step 2: Hydro Jetting & Pipe Prep

A clean pipe surface is critical for the liner to bond properly. We hydro jet the line to remove all roots, scale, grease, and debris — then inspect again to confirm the pipe walls are ready for lining. For cast iron pipes with heavy buildup, we may use chain descaling first before jetting.

Step 3: Liner Installation & Curing

A fiberglass or polyester liner saturated with two-part epoxy resin is inserted through the cleanout access point and pulled into position. An internal bladder is inflated, pressing the liner firmly against the pipe walls throughout its entire length. We then cure the resin using heat, steam, or UV light — hardening it into a rigid, seamless new pipe within the old one. Cure time: 2–4 hours.

Step 4: Final Camera Verification

Once cured, we run the camera through the newly lined pipe one final time to inspect the liner for proper fit, full adhesion, and no voids or missed sections. You receive a clean bill of health before we pack up. The pipe is back in service the same day in most cases.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions About Pipe Relining

Answers to the most common questions San Diego homeowners ask about trenchless pipe relining.

What is pipe relining and how is it different from pipe repair?

Pipe relining (CIPP — Cured-In-Place Pipe) is a specific trenchless method that rehabilitates a damaged pipe by installing a resin-coated liner inside it. Once cured, the liner forms a new seamless pipe inside the old one. It’s best for pipes that are cracked, corroded, or have root intrusion but still have their basic structural shape. Pipe repair is a broader term that also includes pipe bursting — where a severely damaged or collapsed pipe is fractured outward and replaced with a new one. If your pipe is still intact but damaged inside, relining is the preferred solution.

Pipe relining costs in San Diego typically range from $80 to $250 per linear foot for CIPP lining, with most residential jobs (20–100 feet) falling between $2,000 and $6,000. This is significantly less expensive than traditional excavation and replacement, which can easily run $8,000 to $20,000+ once digging, pipe installation, and property restoration are factored in. Sky Quality Plumbing provides free camera inspections and upfront estimates before any work begins.

CIPP pipe liners are rated to last 50 years or more when properly installed. The epoxy resin creates a composite structure that is corrosion-resistant, smooth-walled (improving flow), and highly resistant to root re-intrusion. Most pipe relining contractors provide a 10-year workmanship warranty. The liner itself has been in use commercially since the 1970s and has a well-established long-term performance record.

Yes, but minimally. A CIPP liner typically reduces the pipe’s interior diameter by 5–8%, which in most cases has no measurable effect on flow capacity. In fact, because the new liner surface is smoother than corroded or scaled pipe walls, many homeowners experience improved drainage after relining — even with the slight diameter reduction.

Most residential sewer and drain lines in San Diego qualify for pipe relining — especially older homes with clay, cast iron, or concrete pipes in neighborhoods like North Park, Kensington, Point Loma, La Mesa, and Chula Vista. The key requirement is that the pipe must have enough structural integrity to support the liner during installation. A camera inspection confirms this quickly. If the pipe is too deteriorated or collapsed, we’ll recommend pipe bursting instead.

Yes. Most pipe relining jobs allow for same-day return to normal plumbing use. The liner curing process takes 2–4 hours, after which the bladder is removed and the line is camera-verified and put back in service. In most residential relining jobs, water is only shut off for a few hours during the installation and curing stage.
